The Old Bakery Cottage

Where the locals are more colourful than the birds

The Old Bakery Cottage is a private, off-the-grid guest house located on the tranquil shores of Lasqueti Island, British Columbia. Make your way here to unplug, unwind, and bask in the simplicity of "island life".

WHAT DOES THE OLD BAKERY COTTAGE PROVIDE?

The Old Bakery Cottage is self-contained. We provide bed linens and towels, spa robes, and a fully-equipped kitchen.

HOW MANY PEOPLE DOES THE COTTAGE SLEEP?

Up to four people. The cottage has a Master bedroom with a double bed and one sleeping loft with a double futon.

IS THERE A BATHROOM IN THE COTTAGE?

No, but we do have a deluxe outhouse & hot-water outdoor shower!

CAN I CHARGE MY ELECTRONICS AT THE OLD BAKERY COTTAGE?

We are off-the-grid and rely on solar energy and propane for lights, cooking, and heat. Also, there are no electric sockets in the cottage, so leave your hairdryers and electronic gadgets at home!

IS THERE WIFI?

Unfortunately, no - we're in a bit of a dead zone! But if you walk five minutes down the hill to the pub or five minutes up the hill to the free store, you'll have access to free WiFi.

ARE PETS WELCOME?

Yes, but only dogs! Please be aware that there are feral sheep on the Island and Lasquetians are very protective of their sheep. We only ask that owners keep this in mind and carry a leash with them when walking off the property. We would also appreciate you cleaning up after your pet.

HOW FAR IS THE OLD BAKERY FROM THE FERRY DOCK?

The Old Bakery is located 400m up the hill on the left hand side. You can also consult our contact page to view a map of our location.

IF THERE'S NO ELECTRICITY, WHAT SOURCES OF LIGHT ARE THERE AT NIGHTTIME?

Because the cottage is solar-powered, you will have access to a basic lighting system should you need it, as well as propane lighting. We also provide flashlights. For late night reading, we recommend you bring a headlight.

IS THE WATER DRINKABLE?

No, the water comes from a nearby lake. We have placed filters on our main waterline, however, there is a boiled water advisory in place. We do supply our guests with a five gallon jug of drinking water

WHERE CAN I BUY FOOD ON LASQUETI ISLAND?

We recommend you bring as many food provisions and beverages with you as possible, as there is only one store, (False Bay Provisions) located near the ferry dock, which provides limited dried, canned, and baked goods along with organic grains etc.

We highly recommend False Bay Provisions for their delicious and hearty homemade soups, sandwiches and baked goods.

In the summer months, there is also a wonderful Farmer's Market every Saturday from 11am-1pm at the Arts Centre just down the hill.

WHAT IS THERE TO DO ON LASQUETI?

Hiking, cycling and swimming are some of the more popular activities during your stay on Lasqueti, and we do have bicycles, sea kayaks, and a rowboat that our guests are free to use during their stay. Please consult our things to do page for further information and suggestions.

HOW DO WE DISPOSE OF OUR GARBAGE?

We provide a small garbage bag, which we ask you please take home with you as there is no formal garbage disposal system on the Island. However, we do provide a recycling bin for glass bottles, cans, and clean plastic. We provide a compost bin too, So in theory, you should only end up taking styrofoam and foil home with you!

Lasquetians are very conscious of their environment and we want to make sure that we maintain this respectful attitude.
